Genesee transferred the brewing of Koch's brands to Rochester which it continued through the 2000s. Bring a pint up to our rooftop and check out the stunning view of the Rochester skyline and High Falls. On September 8, 2012, the $3.9 million Genesee Brew House opened to the public. The 9,200-square-foot former packaging center features interactive exhibits and multimedia presentations that explore Genesee's history, along with a gift shop and a pub-style restaurant. A large, brick building with red awnings, the title “Genesee” stretched across.
Right next to the building, 532 kegs, stacked into a neat triangle, strung with lights. Folks are gathered all around, toasting to the occasion with a limited-edition Cinnamon Cream Ale and tasting the special food offerings of the night. If you’re looking for holiday cheer, this festive local tradition is the perfect place to find it.
And there's a pilot brewery, where Genesee experiments with new recipes and produces craft beers — some just for the brew house pub and others sold in limited release to off-premises accounts. While the rooftop deck and outdoor patio are closed during the colder months, there is indoor seating on the brew house’s second floor throughout the year. Most of the seating features table service, though if you opt to sit on the rooftop deck (and you should on a nice day), you’ll have to order at the bar. The brew house is inside a two-story building just north of downtown Rochester. Located adjacent to the main Genesee brewery, the brew house offers the chance to sample their beers and learn more about the company’s history.
Along with this change, High Falls Brewery changed its name back to the original "Genesee Brewing Company" operating under the North American Breweries name. In October 2012, North American Breweries was purchased by FIFCO. Its bar will serve the brewery's popular Ruby Red Kolsch along with its successor, Tropical Pineapple Kolsch, now in its second year. Another option will be Captain's Mix, a combination of the two.
In the holiday season, don't miss Genesee's giant Keg Tree. Upstairs, find the restaurant/bar, with an emphasis on beer-friendly German foods and American tavern fare. Genesee opened the Genesee Brew House that fall, offering a combination museum, craft brewery and tasting room, and tap room and restaurant.
We offer a variety of different beers that are exclusive to the Genesee Brew House and are frequently changing. A brand new Brew House Bungalow is set to open at the Cataract Street restaurant Friday. Genesee is also a regional brewer for Mike's Hard Lemonade and other malt beverage products, with Genesee Brewing Company producing almost all of the Mike's sold to the east coast market. Former Genesee employee Mike Gaesser, who worked at the brewery for 45 years before his retirement last year, had the idea for the first Keg Tree. Now, his legacy continues as a celebration of the season and nod to Genesee’s long history and contribution to Rochester’s booming food and beverage scene.
